New Colby Drive-In Rack:A new, low cost and versatile solution for high density pallet storage
Colby Storage Solutions, a division of global material handling specialist Dematic, has launched a new system of Drive-In Pallet Racking.
Head of the Structural Engineering Department at Colby Storage Solutions, Dr Murray Clarke, said the new system was the result of three years R&D and represented a step change in the way Drive-In Racks are designed.
“Many of the Drive-In Racks on the market make use of components that were originally designed for standard selective pallet racking. Racks of this type are not optimised for the specific demands of Drive-In pallet storage applications,” said Dr Clarke.
“The new Colby Drive-In Rack has been specifically developed from the ground up for drive-in pallet storage.”
The result is a totally new, modular and highly configurable Drive-In Racking system.
The basic concept of the new Colby Drive-In system is the use of wider uprights, deeper frames, and other larger and stronger components, which means fewer components are required overall compared to traditional designs. The result is greater load carrying capacity, better structural integrity and improved performance at a lower cost.
“The proper structural design of drive-in rack is a complicated process,” said Dr Clarke.
“Every Colby Drive-In Rack solution is custom-designed to meet the individual project requirements in terms of pallet size and load, warehouse design and the materials handling equipment to be used,” he said.
“Colby storage system designers carry out these customised designs using our exclusive RACKMAN software. In this way, the best and most cost effective solution for any application can be determined, with complete assurance as to the design integrity and safety of the system.”
Another benefit of the new Colby system is that it is easier and quicker to install than existing Drive-In Racking.
“Because our components are standardised and there are fewer of them, installation is surprisingly quick and simple,” said Dr Clarke. “Our design is also modular and highly configurable for individual needs,” he said.
Space utilisation can be optimised with the uprights allowing pallet runner height adjustments in 50mm increments, and the new single-sided cantilever brackets even allow for different pallet levels in adjacent bays, further improving storage flexibility and versatility.
Drive-In Racking:
Is the lowest cost solution for high density pallet storage
Maximises the use of warehouse space
Is cost effectively serviced by a variety of forklifts including Counterbalanced and Reach Trucks
Is ideal for “first in, last out” storage requirements or when storing a large amount of the same product
